TERMS AND CONDITIONS
ASICS MASISWA Badminton Tournament 2024
1.0 ELIGIBILITY
1.1 The ASICS MASISWA Badminton Tournament is open to all students registered at private university/colleges (Institut Pengajian Tinggi Swasta, IPTS) that are recognised by the Majlis Sukan IPTS Malaysia (MASISWA).
1.2 The MASISWA individual categories are open to local and international students from IPTS, including national and state players.
1.3 Each player can only represent one institution where he/she is registered as a student for the entire tournament.
1.4 Each player is limited to participate in maximum two (2) individual categories.
(e.g. Men’s Singles & Men’s Doubles)
1.5 A maximum of three (3) entries per individual category can be submitted by each IPTS, subject to slot availability.
1.6 For Doubles categories, only pairs from the same IPTS can play. Doubles pairs. Entries consisting of two (2) different IPTS will not be accepted.
2.0 SCORING SYSTEM & TOURNAMENT FORMAT
2.1 This tournament will be contested according to the Rules and Laws of the International Badminton World Federation (BWF) and the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).
2.2 The scoring system that will be used for the tournament is twenty-one (21) points,
best of three (3) games.
2.3 The tournament is based on knock-out format. Players will only proceed to
the next round if they win.
2.4 This tournament is also subject to the Laws and Regulations set by the Management and Technical Committee of ASICS MASISWA Badminton Tournament 2024.
2.5 All decisions made by the Management and Technical Committee of ASICS MASISWA Badminton Tournament 2024 are final.
3.0 PROTEST
3.1 Any protest must be made in writing by the team manager and certified by the Head of the Contingent or the representative of the respective IPT (Institution of Higher Learning). It must be submitted to the Technical Coordinator of the game to be forwarded to the Secretary of the Technical and Competition Committee within no more than one (1) hour after the match ends, or within the time specified by the game, accompanied by a cash deposit of RM 500.00 (Five Hundred Ringgit Malaysia) as a guarantee and processing fee.
3.2 Any protest must be submitted together with evidence of the matter being protested. If no evidence is provided within 60 minutes after the protest is received, the protest will be automatically dismissed.
3.3 If the protest is accepted by the Protest Committee, a deposit of RM 300.00 (Three Hundred Ringgit Malaysia) will be refunded, while RM 200.00 (Two Hundred Ringgit Malaysia) will be retained as a processing fee.
3.4 All protests/appeals must be written in Bahasa Malaysia.
3.5 The decision of the Protest and Appeals Committee is final.
4.0 MATCH DAY
4.1 Participants are required to be at the hall thirty (30) minutes before the scheduled
match time as matches might be called 10-15 minutes before the scheduled time.
4.2 A five (5)-minute grace is given for participants to be on the court before a walkover
is declared.
5.0 GENERAL
5.1 The umpire's decision shall be final on all points of fact for which he/she is responsible. Players should not dispute the umpire's decision.
5.2 The organiser reserves the right to reduce the prize money/cancel any particular
category with insufficient entries.
5.3 The organiser reserves the right to amend the schedules, and rules and regulations if necessary.
5.4 Registration fees are not refundable after payment has been made.
ASICS Badminton University Cup 2024
1.0 ELIGIBILITY
1.1 All Institut Pengajian Tinggi (IPT) under the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) are eligible to participate in the ASICS Badminton University Cup 2024.
1.1.1 All students who are registered and attend full-time courses at Diploma and
Degree level offered at Institut Pengajian Tinggi Awam (IPTA), Institut Pengajian Tinggi Swasta (IPTS) and Polytechnics are eligible to participate in this tournament.
1.1.2 All students who are registered for courses of three (3) months and more, and attend a full-time certificate-level course at Community College are also eligible to play in the ASICS Badminton University Cup 2024.
1.1.3 All students who are registered and attending full-time courses at postgraduate level are eligible to participate provided they get confirmation from the Postgraduate Department of their respective institutions.
1.1.4 The tournament is open to local and international students from IPTs, including national and state players.
1.2 No players are allowed to represent more than one (1) team in the ASICS Badminton University Cup 2024.
1.3 For the IPT Mixed Team Open category, each team must consist of total minimum five (5) players, and maximum eight (8) players from the same IPT. At least one (1) female player must be registered for the team to be eligible for the category.
1.4 With reference to 1.2, teams consisting of players from different IPTs will not be accepted.
1.5 Each IPT can send a maximum of two (2) teams to take part in the IPT Mixed Team Open category.
1.6 Additionally, each player can only play in one (1) category each match.
(e.g. one player cannot play in both the Mixed Doubles and Men’s Singles categories in the same match).
2.0 SCORING SYSTEM & FORMAT
2.1 The scoring systems that will be used for the tournament are:
Group stage: Thirty (30) points, one (1) game.
Knock-out stage: Twenty-one (21) points, best of three (3) games.
2.2 The format for this tournament is round-robin (group stage), and knock-out from group stage onwards where players will only proceed to the next round if they win.
2.3 The IPT Mixed Team Open category match format will be as follows:
Game 1: Mixed Doubles followed by
Game 2: Men’s Doubles followed by
Game 3: Men’s Singles

4.1 The players’ line up form must be submitted to the Table Officer/Umpire thirty (30) minutes before the match starts.

PARTICIPANT SAFETY & HEALTH
1. Whilst every reasonable precaution will be taken by the Organiser to ensure the Participants’ safety, you agree that you are competing at your own risk. The Organiser shall not be held responsible or liable for any injury or death arising directly and/or indirectly from training in preparation for the Tournament and/or participation in the Tournament.
2. You are strongly encouraged to go for a medical check-up and/or consultation with your medical practitioner prior to registration and/or at any time from the date of registration until the date(s) of the Tournament to satisfy yourself of your physical and mental fitness to participate in the Tournament.
3. You are encouraged to have adequate personal accident and injury insurance coverage before participating in the Tournament.
4. Participants are not allowed to play in the Tournament if they are pregnant. The Organiser shall not be held responsible or liable for any complications arising from participation and reserves the right to disqualify Participants from matches or prizes for false declarations.
5. If you suffer from any of the medical conditions stated below, you are not allowed to participate in this Tournament:
a) Congenital or rheumatic heart conditions;
b) Hypertension;
c) Myocarditis and other heart conditions;
d) Coronary heart disease and/or coronary arterial disease;
e) Serious arrhythmia;
f) Diabetes;
g) Vertigo; and,
h) Any other disease which can be aggravated by intense physical exertion.
No exceptions shall be made for Participants with any of the above medical conditions. The Organiser reserves the sole right to allow or disqualify Participants with any medical conditions other than as listed above.
TOURNAMENT CANCELLATION
While every precaution will be taken to ensure the success of the Tournament, the Organiser reserves the right to cancel the Tournament in part or in full for reasons beyond reasonable control of the Organiser, its Event Partners, and/or its Agents, including a force majeure circumstance including but not limited to:
a) Acts of God, flood, drought, air pollution (haze), earthquake or other natural disaster;
b) Epidemic or pandemic;
c) Terrorist attack, civil war, civil commotion or riots, war, threat of or preparation for war, armed conflict, imposition of sanctions, embargo, or breaking off of diplomatic relations;
d) Nuclear, chemical or biological contamination;
e) Any law or any action taken by a government or public authority, including without limitation imposing an export or import restriction, quota or prohibition;
f) Collapse of buildings, fire, explosion or accident;
g) Any labour or trade dispute, strikes, industrial action or lockouts; and
h) Interruption or failure of utility service.
If the Tournament has been cancelled for the reasons abovementioned, the Organiser reserves the right to cancel the event in part or in full for any other reason not stated above.
APPEARANCE RELEASE
By participating in this event, the Participant authorises the Organiser, its subsidiaries and related corporations, including the Asics Malaysia Sdn Bhd, to make use of the Participant’s likeness and appearance in its marketing materials.
The Participant agrees that the Organiser may film and/or photograph his/her likeness, and record his/her voice, conversation and sounds, including any performance, in connection with his/her appearance. The Participant understands that the Organiser will be the sole owner of the results and proceeds of such filming, photographing, and recording (“Materials”) with the exclusive right, throughout the world, including copyright, to use and to license others to use all or any portion of the Materials, whether in connection with the Event or otherwise.
The Participant acknowledges that the Organiser will rely on this permission, potentially at substantial cost to the Organiser, and the Participant agrees not to assert any claim of any nature whatsoever (including any claims for injunctive relief or money damages, all of which the Participant hereby knowingly waives) against anyone relating to the exercise of this permission or to the use of the Materials by the Organiser, or with the consent of the Organiser.
The Participant agree to release, defend, indemnify and hold the Organiser harmless from any and all claims, demands, costs (including legal fees) and causes of action of any kind or nature whatsoever now and in the future, including without limitation defamation, bodily harm, infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy, arising out of or in connection with my appearance, statements or actions in or in connection with the Event.
The Participant consents to the processing of his/her personal data by the Organiser in accordance with, the Organiser’s Personal Data Protection Act Notice and Consent that can be accessed here.
This Terms and Conditions, and all issues arising out of it shall be governed by the laws of Malaysia and all disputes shall be referred exclusively to the courts of Malaysia.
The participant confirms he/she is at least 18 years of age and competent to contract in his/her own name.
WAIVER CLAUSE
In consideration of the acceptance of your participation, you, your heirs, successors and assignees, do hereby unconditionally and irrevocably waive and release the Organiser, the Event Partners, the Agents, as well as all persons, contractors, agents, service providers, volunteers and agencies connected from all complaints, demands, claims, liabilities, proceedings, suits, losses and/or damages of any kind whatsoever due to or relating to or arising directly or indirectly out of your participation in the Tournament, including without limitation, personal injury and/or death.
