Rabies: Facts not Fear

Event Details

 

Unit Komunikasi Awam Sarawak (UKAS) in collaboration with Ministry of Local Government and Housing (MLGH) and Department of Veterinary Sarawak (DVSS) is organising a free-to-register Rabies Awareness Virtual Run that will take place between 20th  September to 1st October 2021 which only require  5km distance covered every week for 2 consecutive weeks. This virtual run is organized in conjunction with World Rabies Day 2021 with the theme of “Rabies: Facts, not Fear ”. Runners from all walks of life from all over Sarawak are expected to participate.

 

As of 14 July 2021, 72 areas have been declared rabies-infected areas in Sarawak. The state government through The Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has taken various initiatives to tackle rabies outbreak since it was declared as a stage 2 disaster according to the National Security Council Directive No. 20.

 

Various awareness and initiatives have been done in order to prevent rabies such as:

 

  • Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak have been vaccinating dogs for free throughout Sarawak with anti-rabies vaccination as well as continuous active and passive surveillance.
  • Ministry of Local Government and Housing are also doing dog licensing (and microchipping) as well as dog population control.
  • The Sarawak State Health Department is continuously doing the integrated bite management.
  • Public Service Announcement and awareness in local radio stations & social media influencers by UKAS

 

For Rabies Awareness Virtual Run, the participant are required to run at least 5 KM per week for 2 weeks, post in their social media with hashtag #WorldRabiesDaySarawak and #BeAResponsiblePetOwner and are entitled to a free accomplishment medal upon completing.

Participation

Participation is FREE

Individuals who complete minimum of 5KM each week will receive a Finisher medal! 

 

 


 

Rules

 

R1: Participants are only allowed to submit distance tracked activities. Step Count activity will NOT be accepted.

 

R2: Participants to ensure that all activities are;

  1. From an active running/walking activity. Tracking your steps/walk over the whole day is not an active activity. (Shopping and tracking are not allowed too).

  2. Synced/submitted before the end of each week and before the event ends (23:59 GMT +8). Late submissions will not be accepted.

  3. Submitted with the necessary information; Start date and time, duration, distance and route* (*for outdoor activity only).

Q1 : Do I need to submit the result daily?
A1 : Result submission is required to be done before end of every week and before the event ends by 23:59 (GMT+8). 

 

Q2 : Is it limited to outdoor runs only?
A2 : No, indoor treadmill results are also acceptable. You may submit a photo of your treadmill dashboard by manual submission. Please ensure that your submission includes the date of the activity.

 

Q3 : Who is eligible to participate in this event?
A3 : This event is open to anyone in Sarawak, Malaysia. 

 

Q4 : How will I receive the entitlements? 
A4 : Participants can collect their entitlement from their respective location in Sarawak after the e-certificate is delivered.

Participants also can opt for delivery with a delivery fee after the e-certificate being delivered. Please contact the Organiser to arrange for delivery.

 

Q5 : Will I get the finisher medal if I did not complete the minimum 5KM per week?
A5 : No, finisher medals will only be given out to individuals that complete a minimum of 5KM each week.

 

Q6 : Will my mileage be collected before the event date count?
A6 : No, your mileage will be collected from the date and time the event starts and after you have successfully registered.
