TERMS AND CONDITIONS
ASICS Badminton University Championship 2026
1.0 ELIGIBILITY
1.0.1 The ASICS Badminton University Championship 2026 is open to all students registered at local universities and colleges (Institut Pengajian Tinggi (IPT)) recognised by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE).
1.0.2 All students who are registered and attend full-time courses at Diploma and Degree level offered at Institut Pengajian Tinggi Awam (IPTA), Institut Pengajian Tinggi Swasta (IPTS), and Polytechnics are eligible to participate in this tournament.
1.0.3 All students who are registered for courses of three (3) months and more, and attend a full-time certificate-level course at Community College are also eligible to play in the ASICS Badminton University Championship 2026.
1.0.4 All students who are registered and attending full-time courses at postgraduate level are eligible to participate provided they get confirmation from the Postgraduate Department of their respective institutions.
1.0.5 The tournament is open to local and international students from IPTs.
1.0.6 Each player can only represent one institution where he/she is registered as a student for the entire tournament.
1.0.7 Players can only play in a maximum of two (2) individual categories from the same level (either Open Category or Bakat Baru category).
For example, players can play in Men’s Singles Open and Mixed Doubles Open.
However, they are NOT allowed to play in both Men’s Singles Open and Bakat Baru Mixed Doubles category.
1.1 Open Category
1.1.1 The Open individual categories are open to all players, including current/former national and state players.
1.1.2 The following five (5) Open categories will be played in the tournament:
1.1.2.1 Men’s Singles Open
1.1.2.2 Women’s Singles Open
1.1.2.3 Men’s Doubles Open
1.1.2.4 Women’s Doubles Open
1.1.2.5 Mixed Doubles Open
1.1.3 Each player can participate in a maximum of two (2) individual Open categories.
(e.g. Men’s Singles Open & Men’s Doubles Open)
1.1.4 For Doubles categories, only pairs from the same IPT can play. Doubles pair entries consisting two (2) different IPTs will not be accepted.
1.2 Bakat Baru Category
1.2.1 Current and former national/state/badminton players with BWF/BAM IDs are NOT allowed to participate in the Bakat Baru category.
1.2.2 The following four (4) Bakat Baru categories will be played in the tournament:
1.2.2.1 Bakat Baru Men’s Singles
1.2.2.2 Bakat Baru Men’s Doubles
1.2.2.3 Bakat Baru Women’s Doubles
1.2.2.4 Bakat Baru Mixed Doubles
1.2.3 Each player can participate in a maximum of two (2) individual Bakat Baru categories.
(e.g. Bakat Baru Men’s Singles & Bakat Baru Men’s Doubles)
1.2.4 For Bakat Baru Doubles category, only pairs from the same IPT can play. Doubles pair entries consisting two (2) different IPTs will not be accepted.
2.0 REGISTRATION
2.1 Players are to register under their full name as per stated on their National Registration Identification Card (NRIC)/passport & student ID.
2.2 If the player’s student ID number changes in the period between registration and tournament day, the player is obligated to inform the organisers via email.
e.g. Player #1 had to update their student ID due to the new academic intake, and their student ID number changed. The player must inform the organisers and their own university team manager / coach / captain.
2.3 Information provided by the players is to be true, accurate, current and complete information. The Organiser may suspend or cancel a participant’s registration without any refund of registration fee should the participant’s information be found to be untrue, inaccurate or incomplete.
2.4 Registration fees are NOT refundable or transferable after payment has been successfully made.
2.5 Participants are strictly NOT allowed to transfer their registration entries to another party or change event categories after registration is successful (with exception of 3.1.1).
3.0 INJURY / WITHDRAWAL / REPLACEMENT
3.1 Before tournament starts
3.1.1 Injured players can be replaced BEFORE the tournament draw has been released. A formal letter must be provided by the university and submitted to [email protected]. The letter must include the details of the injured player and the new replacement (name, student ID, contact details and event category).
3.1.2 If a player wishes to officially withdraw from the draw AFTER the draw has been released, the player is required to submit a formal letter / email to [email protected]. The player’s matches will then be considered as walkovers.
3.1.3 If a player playing two (2) categories withdraws from their first category BEFORE the tournament has started, their other entry will still be considered as valid provided the university submits a formal letter with regards to the player’s withdrawal.
E.g. Player #1 decides to withdraw from the Men's Singles Open but still wishes to play in the Men’s Doubles Open category. He can still play in Men’s Doubles if he submits a formal letter detailing he would like to withdraw from Men’s Singles but still play in Men’s Doubles.
3.2 During tournament
3.2.1 If a player playing two (2) categories is injured DURING the tournament and wishes to retire their match in their first category, their entry in the other category will be considered as walkover.
E.g. Player #2 decides to retire during her Women's Singles Open match due to injury. Her Women’s Doubles match will be considered a walkover.
4.0 POINT SYSTEM & TOURNAMENT FORMAT
4.1 This tournament will be contested according to the Rules and Laws of the International Badminton World Federation (BWF) and the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).
4.2 The point system that will be used for the tournament is as follows:
Point system: fifteen (15) points, best of three (3) games
Deuce: capped until twenty-one (21) points, first to 21 points wins.
Interval: will occur when the leading score reaches eight (8) points.
4.3 The tournament is based on knock-out format. Players will only proceed to the next round if they win.
4.4 This tournament is also subject to the Laws and Regulations set by the Management and Technical Committee of ASICS Badminton University Championship 2026.
4.5 All decisions made by the Management and Technical Committee of ASICS Badminton University Championship 2026 are final.
5.0 PROTEST
5.1 Any protest must be made in writing by the team manager and certified by the Head of the Contingent or the representative of the respective IPT (Institution of Higher Learning). It must be submitted to the Technical Coordinator of the game to be forwarded to the Secretary of the Technical and Competition Committee within no more than one (1) hour after the match ends, or within the time specified by the game, accompanied by a cash deposit of RM 500.00 (Five Hundred Ringgit Malaysia) as a guarantee and processing fee.
5.2 Any protest must be submitted together with evidence of the matter being protested. If no evidence is provided within sixty (60) minutes after the protest is received, the protest will be automatically dismissed.
5.3 If the protest is accepted by the Protest Committee, a deposit of RM 300.00 (Three Hundred Ringgit Malaysia) will be refunded, while RM 200.00 (Two Hundred Ringgit Malaysia) will be retained as a processing fee.
5.4 All protests/appeals must be written in Bahasa Malaysia or English.
5.5 The decision of the Protest and Appeals Committee is final.
6.0 ATTIRE
6.1 Doubles players MUST wear similar coloured jerseys during their matches.
6.2 Coaches / team officials / teammates that wish to sit at the designated coaches’ chairs during the tournament MUST be dressed appropriately in long pants and covered shoes.
7.0 MATCH DAY
7.1 All players MUST report to the registration desk on the day of the tournament at least forty-five (45) minutes before the players’ scheduled first match.
Players are required to show their original IC/passport & student ID to the registration desk for verification purposes. Failure to do so will have the player automatically disqualified without any fees refunded. If your student ID is virtual, please ensure you log into your student portal & show the virtual student ID.
7.2 Participants are also required to show both identification documents (IC/passport & student ID) to the umpire overseeing their first match before they enter the court.
7.3 If the player’s student ID number changes in the period between registration and tournament day, the player is obligated to show BOTH the old student ID and new student ID. A virtual copy of the old student ID is sufficient.
7.4 Participants are required to be at the hall thirty (30) minutes before the scheduled match time as matches may be called 10-15 minutes before the scheduled time.
7.5 A five (5)-minute grace is given for participants to be on the court before a walkover
is declared.
8.0 PRIZES & MEDAL CEREMONY
8.1 Prizes for the ASICS Badminton University Championship 2026 are as follows:
OPEN CATEGORY

BAKAT BARU CATEGORY

*Every player will receive RM300.00 worth of ASICS voucher or product.
For doubles pairs, each player will receive RM300.00 worth of ASICS voucher or product.
8.2 Medals will be awarded to champion, runner-up and semi-finalists (second runner-up).
8.3 The Medal Ceremony will be held at the end of the tournament. Medallists are kindly requested to attend the Medal Ceremony until the end.
8.4 Medallists are required to wear appropriate covered shoes.
9.0 GENERAL
9.1 The umpire's decision shall be final on all points of fact for which he/she is responsible. Players should not dispute the umpire's decision.
9.2 The organiser reserves the right to reduce the prize money/cancel any particular
category with insufficient entries.
9.3 The organiser reserves the right to amend the schedules, and rules and regulations if necessary.
ASICS Invitational Badminton University Cup 2026
1.0 ELIGIBILITY
LOCAL
1.1 All local Institut Pengajian Tinggi (IPT) under the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) are eligible to participate in the ASICS Invitational Badminton University Cup 2026.
1.1.1 All students who are registered and attend full-time courses at Diploma and
Degree level offered at Institut Pengajian Tinggi Awam (IPTA), Institut Pengajian Tinggi Swasta (IPTS) and Polytechnics are eligible to participate in this tournament.
1.1.2 All students who are registered for courses of three (3) months and more, and attend a full-time certificate-level course at Community College are also eligible to play in the ASICS Invitational Badminton University Cup 2026.
1.1.3 All students who are registered and attending full-time courses at postgraduate level are eligible to participate provided they get confirmation from the Postgraduate Department of their respective institutions.
1.1.4 The tournament is open to local and international students from IPTs, including current/former national and state players.
INTERNATIONAL
1.2 Teams from international universities abroad are eligible to participate in the ASICS Invitational Badminton University Cup by INVITATION.
1.2.1 The tournament is open to students from invited international teams, including current/former national and state/regional players of their respective countries. Players active on the Badminton World Federation (BWF) international circuit are eligible to play.
GENERAL
1.3 No players are allowed to represent more than one (1) team in the ASICS Invitational Badminton University Cup 2026.
1.4 For the Varsity Mixed Team Open category, each team must consist of a total minimum five (5) players, and maximum eight (8) players from the same university/college. At least one (1) female player must be registered for the team to be eligible for the category.
1.5 With reference to 1.3, teams consisting of players from different institutes will not be accepted.
1.6 Each institute can send a maximum of three (3) teams to take part in the Varsity Mixed Team Open category.
1.7 Additionally, each player can only play in one (1) category each match.
(e.g. one player cannot play in both the Mixed Doubles and Men’s Singles categories in the same match).
2.0 REGISTRATION
2.1 Team managers / captains / university sports officers are required to submit the team registration via the BiiB platform.
2.2 Team managers / captains / university sports staff are required to ensure that the players are
registered under their full names as per stated on their National Registration Identification Card (NRIC)/passports & student IDs.
2.3 If the player’s student ID number changes in the period between registration and tournament day, the team is obligated to inform the organisers via email.

3.0 INJURY / REPLACEMENT

4.0 POINT SYSTEM / FORMAT / TEAM MANAGER’S MEETING
4.1 The point system that will be used for the tournament are:
Group stage: Fifteen points (15), best of three (3) games.
Knock-out stage: Fifteen points (15), best of three (3) games.
Deuce: capped until twenty-one (21) points, first to 21 points wins.
Interval: will occur when the leading score reaches eight (8) points
4.2 The format for this tournament is round-robin (group stage), and knock-out from group stage onwards where players will only proceed to the next round if they win.
4.3 The Varsity Mixed Team Open category match format will be as follows:
Game 1: Mixed Doubles followed by
Game 2: Men’s Doubles followed by
Game 3: Men’s Singles
DRAW
4.4 The draw for Group Stage will be conducted during the Team Manager’s Meeting. The specific date, time and platform will be finalised and communicated to teams prior to the first competition day.
4.5 The draw for the knock-out stage will be conducted once Group Stage ends. Team managers / captains are required to attend the draw process.
5.0 PROTEST

6.1 Players must wear jerseys with their university’s name on the back.
6.2 Doubles players MUST wear similar coloured jerseys during their matches.
6.3 Coaches / team officials / teammates that wish to sit at the designated coaches’ chairs during the tournament MUST be dressed appropriately in long pants and covered shoes.
7.0 MATCH DAY / SUBMISSION OF NAME LIST
Verification of Identity
7.1 Team captains/managers are to collect and present to the registration desk every team member’s original identification card (IC)/passport AND student ID for verification purposes on their first match day. Failure to do so will have the missing team member automatically disqualified without any fees refunded. If your student ID is virtual, please ensure you log into your student portal & show the virtual student ID.
7.2 Participants are also required to show both identification documents (IC/passport & student ID) to the umpire overseeing their matches before entering the court throughout the Group Stage.
7.3 If the player’s student ID number changes in the period between registration and tournament day, the player is obligated to show BOTH the old student ID and new student ID. A virtual copy of the old student ID is sufficient.
Submission of Team Name List
7.4 Team Captains / Team Managers are to fill out the team name list form thirty (30) minutes before their team match, at the Technical Official desk.
ONLY Team Captains / Team Managers / Sports Officers are authorised to submit the name list.
7.5 Participants are required to be at the hall thirty (30) minutes before the scheduled match time as matches might be called 10-15 minutes before the scheduled time.
7.6 A five (5)-minute grace is given for participants to be on the court before a walkover is declared.
8.0 PRIZES & MEDAL CEREMONY
8.1 Prizes for the ASICS Invitational Badminton University Cup 2026 are as follows:
VARSITY MIXED TEAM CATEGORY

*Each player in the team will receive RM300.00 worth of ASICS voucher or product.
8.2 The Medal Ceremony will be held at the end of the tournament. Medallists are kindly requested to attend the Medal Ceremony until the end.
8.3 Medallists are required to wear their university team jerseys and appropriate covered shoes.
8.4 The winning team will receive a replica trophy with their institute’s name engraved on the trophy’s plate for them to bring back to their campus. The Organisers will keep the original trophy.
9.0 GENERAL
9.1 The umpire's decision shall be final on all points of fact for which he/she is responsible. Players should not dispute the umpire's decision.
9.2 The organiser reserves the right to reduce the prize money/cancel any particular category with insufficient entries.
9.3 The organiser reserves the right to amend the schedules, and rules and regulations if necessary.
9.4 Registration fees are not refundable after payment has been made.
TOURNAMENT CANCELLATION
While every precaution will be taken to ensure the success of the Tournament, the Organiser reserves the right to cancel the Tournament in part
or in full for reasons beyond reasonable control of the Organiser, its Event Partners, and/or its Agents, including a force majeure circumstance including but not limited to:
a) Acts of God, flood, drought, air pollution (haze), earthquake or other natural disaster;
b) Epidemic or pandemic;
c) Terrorist attack, civil war, civil commotion or riots, war, threat of or preparation for war, armed conflict, imposition of sanctions, embargo, or breaking off of diplomatic relations;
d) Nuclear, chemical or biological contamination;
e) Any law or any action taken by a government or public authority, including without limitation imposing an export or import restriction, quota or prohibition;
f) Collapse of buildings, fire, explosion or accident;
g) Any labour or trade dispute, strikes, industrial action or lockouts; and
h) Interruption or failure of utility service.
If the Tournament has been cancelled for the reasons abovementioned, the Organiser reserves the right to cancel the event in part or in full for any other reason not stated above.
APPEARANCE RELEASE
By participating in this event, the Participant authorises the Organiser, its subsidiaries and related corporations to make use of the Participant’s likeness and appearance in its marketing materials.
The Participant agrees that the Organiser may film and/or photograph his/her likeness, and record his/her voice, conversation and sounds, including any performance, in connection with his/her appearance.
The Participant understands that the Organiser will be the sole owner of the results and proceeds of such filming, photographing, and recording (“Materials”) with the exclusive right, throughout the world, including copyright, to use and to license others to use all or any portion of the Materials, whether in connection with the Event or otherwise.
The Participant acknowledges that the Organiser will rely on this permission, potentially at substantial cost to the Organiser, and the Participant agrees not to assert any claim of any nature whatsoever
(including any claims for injunctive relief or money damages, all of which the Participant hereby knowingly waives)
against anyone relating to the exercise of this permission or to the use of the Materials by the Organiser, or with the consent of the Organiser.
The Participant agree to release, defend, indemnify and hold the Organiser harmless from any and all claims, demands, costs (including legal fees)
and causes of action of any kind or nature whatsoever now and in the future, including without limitation defamation, bodily harm, infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy,
arising out of or in connection with my appearance, statements or actions in or in connection with the Event.
The Participant consents to the processing of his/her personal data by the Organiser in accordance with, the Organiser’s Personal Data Protection Act Notice and Consent that can be accessed here.
This Terms and Conditions, and all issues arising out of it shall be governed by the laws of Malaysia and all disputes shall be referred exclusively to the courts of Malaysia.
WAIVER CLAUSE
In consideration of the acceptance of your participation, you, your heirs, successors and assignees, do hereby unconditionally and irrevocably waive and release the Organiser,
the Event Partners, the Agents, as well as all persons, contractors, agents, service providers, volunteers and agencies connected from all complaints, demands, claims, liabilities, proceedings, suits, losses and/or damages of any kind whatsoever due to or relating to or arising directly or indirectly out of your participation in the Tournament, including without limitation, personal injury and/or death.
