Anti-Doping Information
The World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) mission is to lead a collaborative worldwide campaign for doping-free sport. WADA works towards a vision of a world where all athletes compete in a doping-free sporting environment.
All athletes will need to sign the acknowledgment of Anti-doping testing. Please download a copy of the most recent acknowledgment form. The team manager should hand the completed forms in at registration on the 16th September 2023.
All competitors and managers should refer to the Anti-Doping Section of the CMAS website for more information.
Question: Is anti-doping testing being carried out at this competition?
Answer: Yes- Athletes who participate in the following CMAS International Events: a. World Championships; b. World Cups; c. Continental Championships are subject to CMAS Anti-doping control.
CMAS has a dedicated CMAS Anti-doping webpage and Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques (CMAS) has delegated responsibility for all TUE applications to the International Testing Agency (ITA). This means that the ITA is now fully responsible for the TUE application process for all international-level athletes that fall under CMAS’s jurisdiction.
For substances prohibited in competition only, you should apply for a TUE at least 30 days before your competition, unless one of the exceptions on retroactive TUEs (see below) apply.
Question: How do I check my medications?
Answer: Check the substance on the Global DRO website to see if it or the method is prohibited.
If the substance and/or method is prohibited and you need to use the substance, you now need to work out if you need an in-advance or retroactive Therapeutic Use Exemption.
NOTE: not all medications are eligible for a Therapeutic Use Exemption and having a Therapeutic Use Exemption will only guard against a possible anti-doping rule violation if the medication is used as per the Therapeutic Use Exemption.
Athletes who require the use of Testosterone are strongly encouraged to review the information required with their treating Practitioner before applying for a Therapeutic Use Exemption.
Preparing a medical file does not guarantee a Therapeutic Use Exemption will be granted.
Question: How do I submit a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) application?
Answer: CMAS encourages you to submit TUE applications via ADAMS, together with the required medical information. If you do not have an ADAMS account yet, please contact [email protected] to have it set up.
Otherwise, please download the TUE Application Form (found on https://ita.sport/TUE), and once duly completed and signed, send it together with the required medical file to [email protected].
Your TUE application must be submitted in legible capital letters or typing.
The medical file must include:
- A comprehensive medical history, including documentation from the original diagnosing physician(s)
(where possible); - The results of all examinations, laboratory investigations, and imaging studies relevant to the application.
Any costs incurred by the Athlete in making the TUE application and in supplementing it as required by the TUEC are the responsibility of the Athlete.
